In remote locations where mains power is not readily available, solar power is used for powering electronic devices.
As these mobile devices do not draw much current, installations can be deployed quickly. This is especially true for temporary installations like short term monitoring of a location or events where internet access or mobile phone coverage is required. During the day power is stored in batteries and at night this power is used to run the equipment. It is important to make sure that there is enough charge in the batteries and large enough solar panels to keep the equipment going even if there are a number of cloudy days where charging the batteries is slow. This all comes to proper planning of the setup to ensure there is enough capacity to allow for a reliable and robust running of the overall solution.
